9/17 - A very sad update on Marvella - Marvella wasn’t pregnant, she was in end stage heartworm disease, something so preventable if treated. Unfortunately, she could not be saved. You can read Lori’s full post here.

Houston Spay and Neuter attempted surgery, going in her prognosis was very guarded, her gums were pale, her breathing was labored, her abdomen full of fluid. They were trying to remove some of the adult heart worms. They were not able to do this, they had migrated to her lungs and deep into her heart. There was no other treatment, her heart was too damaged, she had been sick for too long. The decision was made to not bring her out of anesthesia, to suffer anymore. This was not an easy decision, but we know in our hearts it was the right one.

We’re devastated, we tried so hard. How we went from a pregnant mom to a sweet 7 year old dog that was dying - she wanted so much to live and be loved. Her tail was wagging the whole time at the vet.

9/16 (late) - Momma is out of the shelter!! She looks to be very young and very malnourished. Thank you SSR Nation for stepping up to foster and for your donations!!

She was having contractions last night and most likely will not make it here to have pups, she’ll be going to get vet clearance to come to us. We’re looking to have her arrive to foster in PA on Saturday.

We are calling her Marvella - is a variation on the word "marvel" and is derived from the Latin word mirabilia, which means "wonderful things". The name Marvella means "wonderful," "admirable," and "amazing".

She loved the fosters son instantly.

We will also be getting the Amazon list set up to go to our foster here as well.
