  • Our adoption fee is $400 plus a refundable $50 when proof of spay/neuter is received by date in adoption contract.

    We will spay/neuter all dogs that are eligible - large breed dogs are often recommended to wait till they are at least 1 year old before the procedure is done, as they are not done growing till then.

  • All dogs are kept up to date on vaccines. Depending on where the dogs came from, they are tested for worms/parasites. Some dogs will require additional medical treatment once adopted. These instances will be communicated to the adopter ahead of time.

  • Yes! We’d prefer you to be located within 2 hours of Saegertown, PA or within 1 hour of one of our SSR volunteers.

  • As a foster, you will be responsible for the following:

    • If applicable, you’ll pick up the dog(s) when they arrive from transport in Grove City, PA.

    • Take the dog(s) to their vet appointments

    • Allow potential adopters to meet the dog(s).

    The rescue will supply you with everything you’ll need to care for the dog.

  • No. We are 100% foster-based and at this time our fosters that can take in adult dogs, particularly those with behavioral issues, already have dogs in their care.

    If you have a dog that needs some training, we have partnered with GoodPup, an online training site. It is subscription-based, but they offer 1 week free which includes a trainer consult and nearly 24/7 messaging capability. If interested, here is the link, https://links.goodpup.com/shelter/SSR. If a subscriber continues after the 1 week of free training, SSR will receive a donation of $40 from the company.

  • We are 100% foster-based and our fosters are mainly in western PA, from Erie to Pittsburgh, in many towns in between. Our mailing address is in Saegertown, PA, about 30 minutes outside of Erie.

    If interested in adopting, we always try and work with the adopter, placing dogs with fosters near them, if possible.

  • If they’re currently in foster care, you will make arrangements with the foster.

    If the dog is arriving on transport, you’ll pick them up in Grove City, PA.
